Technology has finally made it possible to have a high quality book of your art work without needing the reputation of a Picasso, a winning lottery ticket for production costs, or a vacant warehouse to store a thousand books. With print-on-demand publishing, books can be ordered,
printed, bound, trimmed, and shipped in minutes, whether it’s an order for one or a hundred copies.

One-Off Press works through CreateSpace, a division of Amazon. Books are submitted in PDFs. From upload to proof, to the receipt of the first order often takes less that three weeks. Ordering is safe and secure; and fulfillment is quick—orders usually ship in a day. But most
importantly for art books, with HP’s Indigo digital printing press, the quality is superb.

Artist’s Book Series

This is a new series of books, published by One-Off Press. Only select projects are accepted. Books are listed on Amazon, and have a CreateSpace E-Store. Artist’s can purchase books directly through One-Off Press and receive royalties on all other sales.

Artist’s Books are available in three sizes: vertical 8 x 10, square 8.125 x 8.125, and horizontal 8.125 x 6. Color books can be as long as 250 pages, however, we cannot exceed a maximum file size of 100MB.

One-Off Press is not a vanity press. We retain full and final editorial rights and will not accept art work that does not fit into our æsthetic. Query with a few jpgs, monitor size is okay. Contact, also see Terms.

Art Book Alternative I

You may choose to have your own CreateSpace account (CreateSpace) and let CreateSpace be the publisher. CreateSpace will provide an ISBN and will be the publisher of record. The advantage is that you buy at the member price, and you get the full royalty for each book sold through Amazon or CreateSpace, except member purchases.

The disadvantage is that your book must meet all their submission criteria. Although you pay nothing except for the proof, submitting work to CreateSpace, as interior and cover PDFs, can be daunting. They have written and unwritten submission guidelines, and failure to meet them, usually left quite vague in their review letters, will “pause” a book until corrections are made.

Art Book Alternative II

This is identical to Alternative I, except that you are the publisher. To do this, you must obtain your own ISBN, register it, and obtain the the appropriate bar codes (the US ISBN agent, Bowker, offers this for $150). Every ISBN identifies not only the book, but the publisher of record. If you are likely to publish more than a book or two, you may want to consider this.
