Combining
collage, photography, drawing, and writing, Mendelson works to create
seamless works that flirt with reality and fantasy asking what is real?
At the advice of his attorney, he submitted some of these works to the
copyright office. They refused to issue a copyright, claiming they were
originals— the book spreads (real authors, publishers, editors),
scenic/ narrative collages (real places from real journals). After a year
and a half of letters, emails, and phone calls, "You'll get the registration,
but we've never seen anything like it." What is real and false and,
what we know blurs. |
